Come
to Kitimat for the "Halibut"!
enlarge.) |
Kitimat is a world class
outdoor adventure and fishing destination. It is situated at the head of
the Douglas Channel, which is 80 miles long and has many lagoons,
tributaries, waterfalls and pebble beaches. Halibut, cod, red snapper,
dungeness crab, king crab, giant shrimp, prawn, chinook salmon, pink and
coho are caught here. Boaters can enjoy watching Orca and hump back
whales, sea lions, seals and all kinds of ocean birds. Scuba divers
can also have a great time exploring kelp beds, chasing crabs or finding
king crabs on the rock walls. The channel has three natural hot springs
with hot clear odorless pools. They are easy to access and feel wonderful
at the end of the day.

River Fishing
The Kitimat
River offers exciting fresh water fishing for steelhead, chinook, chum
& coho salmon. The shores are easy to access by trails, car or drift
boats, (no motors permitted). Often, you will see deer, moose, fox, bears
& eagles as you gently drift along. There are many local fishing
guides and charter boat operators able to accommodate groups of any size.
The local tackle shops are well equipped and cater to our tourists needs.
This is just a sample of some of the
fishing that one can expect to enjoy, when visiting Kitimat. "Don't
forget your camera"!
